ABOUT ARNETTA
Arnetta Johnson didn’t realize when she first picked up the trumpet at age 13 that the instrument would open doors and take her around the world. Growing up in Camden. NJ Johnson studied, practiced and shed until her instrument became an extension of herself as she became better known as “That Trumpet Chic”. Under the guidance of Nasir and Jamal Dickerson, as well as the advice of Hassan Sabree, they helped fuel her passion for the trumpet. They introduced Arnetta to a new realm of musical discovery called the art of improvisation. With such a strong foundation, she continued her musical education at The Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
With one of the finest musical educations under her belt, Arnetta began to solidify her career with countless opportunities to perform, record, and tour with some of the worlds biggest artists. Some of her most notable achievements include performing and touring alongside Beyoncé especially her guest appearance in the Super Bowl LVIIII (50) and her iconic “Homecoming” performance at Coachella in 2018. She is also credited for co-curating the opening marching band arrangements for Super Bowl LIX ‘25 under the direction of Dereck Dixie. Arnetta is also listed as a featured trumpeter on the 2018 “OTR II Tour” as well as the 2018 Grammy Award winning album The Carters “Everything Is Love”. She has gone on to record with numerous major artists and has received to date 5 Grammy Participation Recording Certificates. Including 2024’s Best New Artist and Best R&B Album Grammy Award winning recipient Victoria Monet.
Arnetta is known for the vibrancy of her live performances. She’s known for playing with numerous artists like Philly’s own “Legendary” Roots Crew on their NPR Tiny Desk Concert. She’s also played with many notable jazz greats such as Tia Fuller, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Ralph Peterson. Most recently, Johnson has performed with Ellie Goulding, curated and arranged a performance horn section for The War and Treaty, and played with the incomparable Sigur Rós and most recently opening for the incomparable Miss Jill Scott on her “To Whom This May Concern Tour. Arnetta is currently seen brandishing her horns’ signature sound touring with global alternative pop-rock trio AJR.
In her journey as a solo artist, Arnetta was selected to be apart of LIFEWTR”s “LIFE UNSEEN” national campaign as a brand ambassador featuring her own bottle depicting her expression of her music as bottle art that was sold in national retail and convenience stores. In all that she does, Arnetta Johnson is more than a trumpet player but apart of the music she writes and lives.
She exudes her truth as an artist every time she picks up her trumpet emblazoned with the words “Faith”. Arnetta is undisputedly leaving her mark on the music world as she grows and progresses as an artist, being able to stand shoulder to shoulder with her peers and colleagues. With the expansion of her “Disruptive Jazz” sound she merges her passion for jazz with the sounds, styles and genres that inspire her. Her signature “Netta Bop” style embody the moments where she is one with her instrument. Arnetta’s “Bops” act as a connector to musicians, enthusiasts, and fans from around the world.
Arnetta Johnson has a deep love for her hometown of Camden, NJ and the youth that reside there. She is living proof that circumstances do not dictate your future. Through her partnership with B.A.C INSTRUMENTS Arnetta promotes their “Rent To Own” platform via their website with her special “BOP” discount code for students who cannot afford to buy their instruments outright allowing parents to stretch payments to fit their budgets. She developed Arnetta’s Band Camp (ABC) which had its inaugural season in 2022. This July’s 2026 Arnetta’s Band Camp saw its 5th year anniversary and is looking forward to continued growth. In 2025 Arnetta formed her 501c3 THE BOP FOUNDATION; “Bridging Opportunities To Prosperity”.
It was important to Arnetta to expand her philanthropic efforts for her band camp and well beyond. Constantly teaching through private lessons via her “Lessons with Netta Bop Series”; this is where her passion truly lies. Being able to engage virtually enables and ensures her access to everyone anywhere. Most recently Arnetta was tapped by Miss Jill Scott to head up music programming for her Jill Scott’s Arts and Community Fund. As an artist, Arnetta Johnson’s goal is to continue to grow and refresh the musical landscape along with being musically disruptive, uplifting others and inspiring many.
